Minister of Education

Melinda James

We here at First Baptist Church seek to glorify God by leading people to a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.  The education ministry touches the youngest baby to the most senior adult and everyone in between.  We strive to know and love God by studying His Word, spending time in prayer, and spending time with other believers. When we do those things, God changes lives.

As Minister of Education I plan, implement, enlist leaders and encourage people of all ages and stages to be a part of a small group Bible study. I coordinate Women’s Ministry activities, help to coordinate Wednesday children’s groups, assist the student minister with Vacation Bible School, and assist our pastor as needed.  I am available to listen and to pray with people as needed.

I have been on staff at First Baptist since February 2004.  I have been a member of First Baptist Church and served as a volunteer since 1976.  I love reading, studying, and teaching God’s Word.  One of my greatest joys is teaching the Homebuilder’s Class, a Bible study for young adult singles and couples.  I also enjoy serving one the women’ ministry team, leading women’s Bible study, and encouraging men, women and children of all ages and stages to grow in Christ.

I am a retired educator having taught 6th graders for 27 years in the Simpson County School system. I had planned in my retirement to putter at home and in my garden.  God had different plans for me.  He opened a door of opportunity for me to serve on staff at First Baptist, something I had never dreamed of doing. Without the help and encouragement of my husband, Danny James, and my children, Medana and Duncan McCracken, Garrett and Beth James, and my grandchildren, Caleb, Nat and Madeline, I couldn’t do what I believe God has called me to do for such a time as this in my life. I give God the glory for every good thing!
